Configure the customer check-in form
Choose what customers must provide, pause check-in, or require sign-in — all per location.
Requires Location Admin
Steps
- Open your location and select Settings in the sidebar.
- Expand Check-in options.
- Adjust what you need:
- Require phone number — on by default, and we recommend keeping it on. The phone number is how SiteCheckin recognizes repeat visitors, catches accidental double check-ins, and how your team calls someone who steps away. If you turn it off, a customer can check in with just their name — when they do give a phone number it still has to be a real one. If phone is off, keep Require email on so duplicate protection and repeat-visitor history keep working (they fall back to the email address). With both off, the only way to reach a customer is their own ticket page.
- Require email — on by default, and we recommend keeping it on. Email delivers the customer's ticket number and live tracking link, so if they close the page they can reopen their status from the email. Turn it off only if you're sure customers won't need to return to their status link.
- Offer "Get email updates" on the status page — on by default. A customer who skipped email at check-in sees a small "Get email updates" option on their ticket page and can add an address for that visit's "your turn" emails. Email only (no texts); it never replaces an address already on file. Turn it off here if you don't want the affordance shown.
- Auto-close forgotten check-ins — off by default, so overnight and weekend drop-offs stay open as long as you need. Turn it on to automatically close any ticket nobody has moved for your chosen window (1–168 hours; 12 is a good starting point): still waiting → No-show; already in service → Closed. Keeps forgotten tickets off the board; your team can always reopen an auto-closed ticket from its page.
- Favourites claim window — staff can mark tickets as favourites (♥ on the board, saved only on their own device) and filter the board to just theirs — handy when each waiter or tech owns specific customers. New check-ins stay visible to everyone under that filter for the claim window (default 5 minutes; 0 turns the window off) so fresh walk-ins can be claimed.
- Require address — off by default; useful for service businesses that need it.
- Require an age confirmation — off by default; see Privacy, consent & age confirmation.
- Saved Check-in Information — collect one reusable detail (vehicle, student, truck…) that attaches to every ticket automatically. See Saved Check-in Information.
- Public notice — a short banner shown on your check-in page (e.g. "Masks required").
- Require sign-in to check in — off by default. When on, customers must have a SiteCheckin account; use this only for member-style audiences, since it adds real friction.
- Select Save at the bottom of the section.
Resource reservations (rooms, equipment) always ask for a phone number — the "any available room" queue uses it to make sure one person can't hold two rooms.
Pausing check-in
To stop new check-ins temporarily (holiday, emergency), turn Check-in enabled off in the same settings. Your page stays up but tells customers check-in is closed; existing tickets are unaffected.
Test it
Open your check-in page in a private window and confirm the form asks for exactly what you chose, then run a test check-in.
